Early-phase migration dynamics of Echinococcus multilocularis in two mouse strains showing different infection susceptibilities

چکیده
The early-phase migration dynamics of Echinococcus multilocularis in the intermediate hosts remain largely unknown. We compared parasite burden intestine, liver and faeces DBA/2 C57BL/6 mouse strains using parasite-specific quantitative PCR. Our results indicated that parasites invaded mainly from middle segments small intestine completed to within 24 h p.i. mice had lower DNA burdens but higher than mice, suggesting invasion may be a critical stage regulating susceptibility E. infection mice.

Immune Response to Echinococcus Multilocularis Infection in the Mouse Model
Echinococcus multilocularis is a cestode helminth which, along with E. granulosus, E. oligarthus and E. vogeli is a causative agent of hydatid disease in man. In the intermediate host (including man), cysts formed by the metacestode (larval stage) develop in the internal organs, causing functional impairment which often leads to the death of the host. In this review larval E. multilocularis inf...

Dynamics of the Force of Infection: Insights from Echinococcus multilocularis Infection in Foxes
Characterizing the force of infection (FOI) is an essential part of planning cost effective control strategies for zoonotic diseases. Echinococcus multilocularis is the causative agent of alveolar echinococcosis in humans, a serious disease with a high fatality rate and an increasing global spread. Red foxes are high prevalence hosts of E. multilocularis. Through a mathematical modelling approa...
متن کاملEchinococcus multilocularis in Estonia
To the Editor: Alveolar echinoco-ccosis (AE) caused by Echinococcus multilocularis is one of the most important emerging zoonosis in Europe. The fatality rate is >90% in untreated patients (1). In Europe, the distribution range of the zoonotic tapeworm E. multilocularis has expanded over the last few decades, and the parasite attracts increasing awareness as a public health issue (2–5). In 2003...
متن کامل1 Transmission dynamics of Echinococcus multilocularis in a patchy environment
We illustrate some of the challenges and potential benefits of modelling parasite population dynamics in a spatially explicit manner, using the example of Echinococcus multilocularis in semi-arid areas of Kazakhstan. We show that by taking a parasite-focussed approach to modelling population dynamics, rather than the usual host-focussed approach, we gain new insights into the complex factors th...
